Why transaction size determines the fee
Bitcoin miners select transactions largely by fee rate, measured in satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB). A payment spending several small coins can therefore cost more than a much larger payment spending one coin. The value sent is irrelevant to network size.
This calculator uses standard size estimates for common single-signature inputs. The exact signed transaction can differ because scripts, signatures and wallet behaviour vary.
Ways to avoid overpaying
- Use a native SegWit or Taproot wallet.
- Send at a quieter time when confirmation is not urgent.
- Consolidate small inputs when fee rates are low.
- Keep replace-by-fee enabled when your wallet supports it.
